Udo Bernhart (born 1956 in Bolzano , South Tyrol ) is a South Tyrolean photographer and photojournalist. Against his parents' wishes, Udo Bernhart decided early on to pursue a photographic career – inspired by his great-uncle Luis Maria Pohl, a passionate photographer and expert on Ceylon. [ 1 ] After training as a repro photographer and photographer, he gained his first experience with Jakob Tappeiner in Merano, a pioneer of South Tyrolean photography In 1978, Bernhart moved to Frankfurt, where he worked as an assistant to a fashion photographer and acquired skills in studio and advertising photography. Soon after, he became self-employed as an advertising and aerial photographer before dedicating himself to photojournalism. [ 2 ] Since 1981, Bernhart has worked as a freelance photojournalist for international magazines such as National Geographic , GEO , ELLE [ 3 ] , abenteuer & reisen , Die Welt , and ADAC Reisemagazin . His work focuses on people, cultures, and landscapes. A formative phase of his career was his collaboration with the United States Travel and Tourism Association (USTTA) between 1985 and 1990 [ 4 ] . His assignment was to photograph all 51 US states "with European eyes." The resulting slideshow was shown at the White House
